Was Saddam Hussein involved in 9/11?

Dick Cheney, MA, Vice President of the US at the time of the quote, stated in a Sep. 14, 2003 Meet the Press interview with Tim Russert:

"MR. RUSSERT: The Washington Post asked the American people about Saddam Hussein, and this is what they said: 69 percent said he was involved in the September 11 attacks. Are you surprised by that?

VICE PRES. CHENEY: No. I think it’s not surprising that people make that connection.

MR. RUSSERT: But is there a connection?

VICE PRES. CHENEY: We don’t know...

Now, is there a connection between the Iraqi government and the original World Trade Center bombing in ’93? We know, as I say, that one of the perpetrators of that act did, in fact, receive support from the Iraqi government after the fact. With respect to 9/11, of course, we’ve had the story that’s been public out there. The Czechs alleged that Mohamed Atta, the lead attacker, met in Prague with a senior Iraqi intelligence official five months before the attack, but we’ve never been able to develop anymore of that yet either in terms of confirming it or discrediting it. We just don’t know."

Iyad Allawi, PhD, former Interim Prime Minister of Iraq, stated in a Dec. 13, 2003 Telegraph article titled "Terrorist Behind September 11 Strike Was Trained by Saddam" by Con Coughlin:

"We are uncovering evidence all the time of Saddam's involvement with al-Qaeda...But this is the most compelling piece of evidence that we have found so far. It shows that not only did Saddam have contacts with al-Qaeda, he had contact with those responsible for the September 11 attacks."

Robin Hayes, US Representative (R-NC) at the time of the quote, told Cable News Network (CNN) in a June 29, 2005 article titled "GOP Lawmaker: Saddam Linked to 9/11":

June 29, 2005 - Robin Hayes

Sabah Khodada, former Captain in the Iraqi Army, stated in an Oct. 14, 2001 interview on Public Broadcasting System's (PBS) "Frontline: Gunning for Saddam":

"That was your reaction on September 11 -- that some of these people [Iraqi fighters] might be involved?

I assure you, this operation was conducted by people who were trained by Saddam. And I'm going to keep assuring the world this is what happened.

Osama bin Laden has no such capabilities. Why? Because this kind of attacks must be, and has to be, organized by a capable state, such as Iraq; a state where they can provide high level of training, and they can provide high level of intelligence to do such training.

How could Osama bin Laden -- who's hiding in the middle of nowhere in Afghanistan in small caves and valleys -- train people and gather information and send people to do such high-level operation? We all know this is a high-level operation. This cannot be done by a person who does not even own a plane in Afghanistan, who cannot offer such training in Afghanistan. This is definitely done by a mastermind like Saddam."

George W. Bush, MBA, US President at the time of the quote, stated in a Sep. 11, 2006 White House press release titled "President's Address to the Nation":

"On September the 11th, we learned that America must confront threats before they reach our shores, whether those threats come from terrorist networks or terrorist states. I'm often asked why we're in Iraq when Saddam Hussein was not responsible for the 9/11 attacks. The answer is that the regime of Saddam Hussein was a clear threat. My administration, the Congress, and the United Nations saw the threat -- and after 9/11, Saddam's regime posed a risk that the world could not afford to take. The world is safer because Saddam Hussein is no longer in power."

"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including Al Qaeda members, though there is apparently no evidence of his involvement in the terrible events of September 11, 2001."

Even though they knew at the time from me, from the FBI, from the CIA, that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11."

Mar. 23, 2004 - Richard Clarke
